We all know exercise is good for us, but sometimes it’s difficult to find a space to move about, particularly in the great outdoors. You may already have an exercise physiologist by your side to guide you with your exercise, however, adding a little outdoor fitness is a great addition to any workout regime. If you want to ramp up your fitness routine, the following are a handful of spots in the Brisbane area that offer exercise equipment with a backdrop of beautiful Brisbane.
Svoboda Park
Situated south of Brisbane in the town of Kuraby, this park is perfect for families, providing both a shaded playground and a basketball court. If you are looking to do a bit of an exercise circuit, the spacious park also has exercise equipment with instructions, so you can work out while the kids play or take a friend for a free outdoor fitness session. The park also has public toilets and barbecue facilities, perfect for a quick workout or a full park day.
Carindale Recreation Park
Known by locals as Rocket Park, this park is also in the Kuraby region and is another good family zone. It has a playground with – you guessed it – rocket ships, is WiFi enabled and has some outdoor exercise equipment. It also has a dog off leash area, picnic facilities and a public toilet. The area even offers a great range of free classes, including pilates and boxing.
Powerhouse Park
Centrally located, this park provides a stunning view of the Brisbane River. On the steps of the historic Brisbane Powerhouse, the park is a popular spot for dog owners as it has an off-leash area. Make your next exercise session a little more fun by taking your dog with you or take advantage of the exercise equipment and shaded grassy areas to work up a sweat.
Kalinga Park
Just a few kilometres north of the city, this park has everything from a climbing wall and treehouses to bicycle and walking tracks and fitness equipment. It even has a dog park, so you can bring the whole family! The Wooloowin based park also includes a number of free activities such as beach cruise rides, Zumba fitness and bike skills training.
Decker Park
Right by the beach, this Brighton based park has several sculptures for the kids to crawl over and climb, as well as lots of exercise equipment. It also has barbecues, a dog off leash areas and a public toilet. Further north, this park is good for those who live in the Moreton Bay region and want to exercise to a beach backdrop.
The Common Park
Unleash the inner skater in you at this street style skate park. Located in Coorparoo, the skate park offers banks, rails, ledges and ramps. The park is part of The Common parkland, which is a recreation area offering great walks along Coorparoo Creek. It is intended to expand the area into a multi-sport venue.
